Post Six

So I lifted this picture from my sister's blog. I think it's a really good picture. I rarely get my three boys together smiling these days. I guess we're all stressed and ready for Sgt Dad to get home! My little guy has already changed in appearance since this was taken. He has grown, slimmed down and his face is losing that boy-ish appearance very quickly. *Sigh* Of all my boys he has had the most noticeable cracking in his voice as it changes. It's cute but at the same time it makes me a little sad.
I finished Lisey's Story last night and it was a very satisfying end. I didn't know what to expect through the entire book since I hadn't read any reviews. It's not a horror like you would expect from Stephen King. It is more of a fantasy. It is a fantasy about a husband and wife and their secret world. That's all I'll say about it. I HIGHLY recommend it. (just ignore the occasional "f" word and the substitute)
I gotta run now- gym, grocery shopping, pick up dog food (I can't forget the dog food, their bowls are EMPTY) Tomorrow I'll post about how middle son got locked in his room......

Post Five

I suppose eventually I'll get more creative with my post titles but for now I like numbering them.
I am happy to say that I'm over my cold. Just a little lingering cough and slightly stuffy nose. Par for the course up here I suppose.
I am fighting the winter doldrums. (that is the correct spelling isn't it?) I have had to literally FORCE myself to the gym the past two days. I really don't know why I struggle with it after all this time. Once I get there I really enjoy it (well mostly enjoy it). I really miss all my work out buddies. If I was friendlier I could probably make new ones but I just blare my Ipod and keep my head down. Speaking of which, I need to buy a new Itunes card and get some more pumping music for my run. I am not a good runner but good music helps me keep going.
All of the sudden Cody has started to sprout! His face is elongating and he's been inching higher! Before I know it all three of my babies will be taller than me. Cody's getting awfully close! I wouldn't be surprised if he passed me by summer!
I am almost finished with Lisey's Story. It is an excellent book! Not what one would expect from Stephen King. I have read many, OK most, of his books and this is a departure from his normal genre. It's still creepy but not a horror per se. It's a softer Stephen King. Yes it is laced with profanity but not every-other-word as many would make it out. I suggest reading an excerpt and judging for yourself. I'm not sure what prompted me to start reading his novels as I'd always heard they were full of profanity and "rough". I did read Cujo in Junior or Senior High and was terrified of large dogs for some time (though I would never have admitted it at the time). In fact that could be the root of my unfounded fear of being attacked by wolves whenever I walk outside to my car after dark. I guess that was right about the time that the movie had come out in theatres. I never picked up another of his novels until just a couple years ago when I stumbled upon Black House (I think that's the right title) which he co-wrote with another author. I HIGHLY recommend that book and the sequel/prequel. AWESOME! The other title is The Talisman. I forgot which is the first but they are both excellent. I read them out of order and it did not lessen my enjoyment of either. I seem to really enjoy books dealing with supernatural elements. Pure fantasy! It's a good escape and it exercises your mind! lol
Well, I did not intend to turn this into a book review.... I guess even when I blog I can ramble on and on .....

Post Four

So today I feel really bad. I've been taking meds, sleeping, blowing my nose and sneezing off and on all morning. I'm crashing for today. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel much better. I guess I should have taken the Zicam when my throat started feeling scratchy. Too late now.

Post Three

So today I pretty much feel like I got run over by a truck. OK, I'm exaggerating but I don't feel well. I've got a minor cold and feel run down.
It was a nice day today. The sun was out and we had light flurries this morning. Not enough to stick but they were so pretty falling in the sun. I have to say that I do enjoy snow but not the bitter cold wind that is so common up here.
I'm not sure if it's windy frequently in Alaska or not but I know we're in for a lot of snow up there. I'm actually looking forward to the adventure of living there. I've been looking at pictures and reading many websites about the state and I am looking forward to experiencing that kind of beauty first hand. I hope to be able to travel around the state and see as much wildlife as possible.
I'm reading Stephen King's Lisey's Story right now. It's really good. He was a way of writing that just sucks you right in as if you are there with the characters. At any rate, his style of writing is much like my own. Not that I'm an author but it seems to be the same way I think. Make sense? I would LOVE to write my own novel. I have ideas that float around in my head but nothing solid, not yet anyway. I guess everyone wants to be the next JK Rowling. :-)
Well, I'm off to take my youngest to the mall so he can hang with his (girl) friends.

Post Two

We recently had a blizzard up here in the Northeast. I took some pictures. My Southern friends and family would probably not even dare to try to drive in it. Below are some pictures I took while driving in to work the day after our 14" snow fall. Enjoy.

This is a picture taken on 590 North about 9am on February 15th, 2007. (yes I was driving while taking photos but only about 30 mph) This is normally a three lane highway and we normally travel about 70mph through this section.

Yes, there is a car buried there somewhere and
that is one of those huge trash buggies behind it.
It was a week before they got this car unburied.

Post One

Yesterday Tater (15) had 3 friends spend the night. It was his "I'm bored of winter break party". They all had a good time and were relatively quiet. I wisely planned ahead and had today off to "recover". Tater stayed up all night and at 6:30 pm he is still sleeping. We went through six 2 liter bottles of soda, 2 gallons of bottled water, 3 bags of chips, one gallon of juice, 3 dozen wings, 2 pounds of sausage, 3 tubes of cinnamon rolls, 2 packages of cookies, and one sheet pizza. No broken bones or household objects! All in all a success! The boys even cleaned up after themselves before they went home.
